TO DO LIST | WEDDING CAKE

Couples embarking on what should be the most fun item on the wedding to do list are sometimes daunted by the incredible variety of wedding cakes that are available. After years of seeing all kinds of cakes we have come to understand that our couples mainly all follow the same set of rules –

1.       Choose a cake that expresses your personalities. It is your wedding cake and not the wedding cake that should take centre stage.

2.     Choose a cake that you have definitely had a few samples of. There are lots of companies who create cakes that are delightful on the outside but not so on the inside. Unfortunately, a dry cardboard textured cake with 3cm of fondant icing simply won’t go well with your guests.

3.     Some couples tie in their cake with the theme and others don’t. This can be a very straightforward process and doesn’t require lengthy discussions. Simply ask your florist to take accents from your arrangements and decorate your delicious cake. At Linden House we frequently receive a small bucket of flowers which we use to decorate your cake as you will see from the photo below. Alternatively ask your cake supplier to inject some of the same colour palette onto your cake. Simple!

One of our most popular suppliers is Cutter and Squidge who are guaranteed to make a delicious cake for your celebration. Located on Brewer Street in Soho this 100% all-natural bakery is sure to impress couples who can pick up a wedding taster box in store or have it delivered. The taster box includes flavours such as ‘Eaton’, ‘Lemon’, ‘Raspberry’ and ‘Double Choc Salted Caramel’.

Cutter and Squidge make it so easy and suggest that a 2-tiered cake is just right for 50 guests. We often have couples who opt for a 1 tier cake (2 or 3 if the guest list is a little longer) and then create a Wedding Dessert Table made up of brownie bites, macarons, baby biskies and cake truffles. These have a dual purpose in that they can also be used as favours or guests can nibble on them with a cup of tea or coffee.

No matter your supplier please be assured that should you wish to have a peaceful night’s sleep before your wedding day (no nightmares of the cake not arriving on the day) we can store your cake in our very large chiller. Please speak to your supplier and ask them to arrange a suitable drop off time at Linden House and we’ll make sure to take delivery of your very precious cargo.

We will also have made sure to ask you questions regarding whether or not you would like for the cake to be displayed throughout the day or brought out at a specific time. If the former, then we will ask if you would like it presented in the Entrance Hall or in one of the Private Dining Rooms. In the Summer months we usually get requests for the cake to be positioned at the front door! We also like to know whether or not you would like for us to cut up all the cake or if there is a preference for the portion size as you may wish to keep some cake for yourselves for your post wedding morning celebration!

We also ask for you to provide cake boxes as we don’t want to throw away any uneaten cake and would much prefer for your guests to take the cake away with them.

If you need any further advice on the selection of your cake please do let the team at Linden House know.
