Join us on 20 June at 7.30pm to mark the arrival of summer with a practice of traditional yoga and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations). Whether you already have a yoga practice, or are trying yoga for the very first time, it’s a chance to observe the summer solstice together.
People around the World have lived by the Sun for millennia, so we’ll tap into the traditions handed from generation to generation. The word Solstice is made up of the Latin word “sol” which means Sun and stirse, which means to stand still. It happens twice a year, when the Sun reaches its Northernmost and most Southernly point in the sky and begins its journey back to the opposite hemisphere. This year, the summer solstice will take place on 20 June at 9.50pm, so there will be plenty of time afterwards to enjoy a midsummer’s night by the river in Hammersmith, with its beautiful sunsets over the Thames. The longest day in the UK heralds summer, abundance and hopefully a time of holidays, relaxing and enjoying nature at its fullest. So with a combination of movement, meditation, music and texts, we’ll meditate on what summer means for you personally. Setting intentions for how you might allow more abundance, joy and fulfilment into your lives over the coming months, we’ll finish with a lovely relaxing Savasana and guided relaxation.
